Liverpool F.C. International Academy Utah has acquired the services of Anthony Godfrey as the organisation’s Director of Coaching.
Godfrey joins following an 11-year spell within Liverpool F.C.’s coaching department, where most recently he was the Coaching Resource Manager.
In that role, he was responsible for recruiting and assigning coaches into full-time coaching positions around the world in LFC International Academies.
He also outlined The Liverpool Way to coaches – primarily the development of coaching sessions, professionalism on and off the pitch, different learning styles and shaping of personalities to inspire youth players.
Wayne Scholes, CEO of Liverpool F.C. International Academy Utah, said: “Bringing Anthony on board is a big step forward in our aim of replicating the success of the Liverpool F.C. Academy programme that has been so successful around the world, and now, it will be right here in Utah.
“Anthony is an expert in ‘The Liverpool way‘, which includes the core values of Liverpool F.C., namely: Ambition, Commitment, Dignity, and Unity. That makes him a perfect fit for the role, his knowledge and experience will drive us forward to achieving our goal to be the best soccer program in the United States.
“We truly believe our coaches are the forefront of what we can achieve here and by giving them the right level of investment towards their development will benefit them personally and professionally. Most importantly, it will benefit our players by having Anthony here to support our coaches in being the best they can be.
“I am so excited to have him here at Liverpool F.C. International Academy Utah, as we look to give young players the very best opportunities to learn not only soccer, but life skills, and help place them in the best environment to succeed.”
Throughout his time at Liverpool, Anthony was part of many projects, ranging from Soccer Schools and Academy phase coaching to working on Partner events and Coaching Clinics.
These often involved working alongside first team players such as Liverpool F.C. captain Jordan Henderson, Daniel Sturridge, Phillippe Coutinho, Adam Lallana and many more.
One of his most recent achievements was being the Assistant Manager for the LFC Legends team that produced a 4-3 victory against Real Madrid at a sold out Anfield in March.
Daren Woolstenhulme, General Manager of Liverpool F.C. International Academy Utah, said: “Having someone of Antony’s calibre join us here in Utah underlines our commitment to quality, structured coaching throughout the age groups.
“He will bring experience of the soccer values that have served Liverpool F.C. so well over the years, and I expect to see an immediate benefit. Anthony is an excellent appointment for us.
“I look forward to him bringing his undoubted knowledge to Liverpool F.C. International Academy Utah."
In his position at LFC IA Utah, Anthony will be responsible for all things football technical related - including overseeing the development of coaches within the Academy system by creating a TNA programme (Training Needs Analysis), the implementation of Academy phases structure, as well as coach recruitment, evaluation and ongoing development.
Mr Scholes added: “Anthony will ensure the coaching staff have a close working relationship with our partners in the UK, at Liverpool, on all technical and coaching matters.
“That commitment to The Liverpool Way means young players will be closely monitored by a team of well-educated coaches in Utah.”
Hundreds of youngsters took part in try-outs for the Liverpool F.C. International Academy Utah last month, as plans continue for the new season.
Teams across Utah will play under the Liverpool F.C. International Academy Utah banner when the new campaign gets under way this summer.
